The following is a partial list of organizations offering grants which can be used for many of CentrePoint’s services. You are encouraged to seek out other funders specific to your sector.

 

Kahanoff Foundation

The Kahanoff Foundation's focus is on philanthropic initiatives in the Calgary community. The Kahanoff Foundation is a resource to charitable organizations in developing creative approaches to deal with challenges facing the community.

Impacting Effectiveness Grant
Partial funding for half the total project budget, up to $5,000, is available to charitable organizations specifically for consultations and services provided through CentrePoint.

First Calgary Savings - Knowledge Builders Grant Program

First Calgary Savings recognizes the necessity of employee learning and training to ensure organizational effectiveness. Teamwork, leadership and vision are critical to personal and professional development and these grants support this development.

Criteria
Your organization must:

  • Be a registered charitable organization
  • Have an internal learning need that requires financial support (conferences and individual course registrations do not apply)
  • Have a local office in Calgary or area
  • Have not received a Knowledge Builders grant in the past year

First Calgary Savings Knowledge Builders Review Committee is comprised of representatives from First Calgary Savings, the United Way of Calgary and Area, and CentrePoint. The committee meets quarterly (January, April, July and October) to review and approve funding requests. Grants are available for up to $2,500.

How to Apply
If a charitable organization that you know has an internal learning need that addresses growth in the area of leadership, planning, teamwork or organizational development, please call the Corporate Citizenship team at 403-230-2783 and ask for more information, or visit First Calgary Savings' website. Search for the “Knowledge Builders Grant Program”.

 

Devon Canada Corporation – Investing in People

Devon Canada Corporation places great value in its people. The company is also very committed to the communities in which it operates. A robust Community Investment Program provides funding for programs and initiatives that align with the company’s values and goals. In order to truly provide capacity building opportunities to not-for-profit organizations themselves the company is offering a grant called “Investing In People.”

“Investing In People” is intended to reflect the company’s strong commitment to the development of people and support programs that encourage retention via creative, healthy and respectful workplaces. The grant focuses on building organizational, rather than individual capacity.

Criteria

  • The maximum allowable grant to an organization is $5,000 in a calendar year
  • The grant may be used for programs for either the organization’s employees or volunteers
  • Organizations are encouraged to think creatively and, if possible, collaboratively with other organizations
  • The applicant organization must be a registered charity or non-profit
  • Funding will be allocated on an annual basis – multi-year applications cannot be accepted
  • Decisions are made independently of Devon’s Community Investment Program
  • The organization must have an impact in one or more of the communities in which Devon operates (information on operating areas is available at www.dvn.com under Operations/Canada)

PricewaterhouseCoopers Canada Foundation

Individual Leadership Grant Charity Application

The PwC Leadership Grants Program provides grants of up to $2,500 to support the leadership development of individuals at registered charities across Canada. Grant recipients may apply these funds to formal training and/or informal development opportunities that best enable them to build their skills or expand their experience to enhance their leadership contributions.

Eligibility
Both volunteers and staff working in small- to medium-sized registered Canadian charities are eligible. Priority will be given to charities with annual budgets under $1 million and to others with a limited ability to support the development of their staff and volunteers. Grants will be given to individuals taking on new leadership challenges as well as those with many years of experience. Applicants are asked to outline the development opportunity they plan to pursue with the grant.

Calgary Foundation

The Calgary Foundation supports charities in all sectors: Arts & Heritage, Community Development, Education, Environment, Health, Human Services, and Recreation. Serving Calgary and area, the Foundation provides grants to promote a healthy, vibrant and diverse community by:

  • Engaging citizens in community building at all levels
  • Strengthening the charitable sector to accomplish its work effectively
  • Nurturing a giving and caring community that values collaboration and learning

How to Apply
Visit Calgary Foundations' website which displays the various categories and intake methods.

The Community Grants category has a semi-annual in-take in March and September, to support initiatives that respond to emerging community issues and evolving priorities.

 

United Way of Calgary and Area

All registered Canadian charities operating local programs may apply for United Way support. The number of funded programs is determined by the amount of dollars raised in the community. They are NOT accepting proposals for funding at this time. Visit United Way's website.

Funding Guidelines and Criteria Alignment with United Way focus areas:

  1. Addresses policy, systems or institutional change
  2. Engages and mobilizes community
  3. Addresses community need
  4. Addresses underlying causes of social issues
  5. Has community support
  6. Demonstrates impact
  7. Excellence in performance and leadership
  8. Strong governance
  9. Need for United Way funds

 

The Alberta Association of Services for Children and Families Leadership Bursary

Supported by Alberta Children and Youth Support Services

The purpose of the Leadership Bursary is to foster future leadership capacity by enabling senior organizational leaders to participate in formal education and professional development programs that enhance their ability to lead their organization and the field. The focus will be to develop or enhance leadership skills and innovation in service delivery and development, human resource management, organizational excellence and fiscal management.

Bursary amounts will range up to $10,000 per year for a maximum of two years. Bursary amounts will vary depending on the length of the program and the education level sought and the amount of money available for disbursement.

$10,000 per year has been allocated for non-accredited programs.

A selection committee will meet twice yearly to review applications and to select successful candidates. All applicants will be informed of the committee’s decision.

 

Mountain Equipment Co-op (MEC) Community Contributions Grants for environmental and conservation agencies

MEC’s grant purpose is meant to strengthen the effectiveness of conservation organizations. These grants range from $5,000 to $35,000.

Criteria

  • Your organization has established a strong record in environmental conservation
  • The project leverages the ability of the organization or network to pursue conservation goals through investment in technology or training and development of people
  • The project focuses on increasing strategic or operational effectiveness
  • A plan is in place to sustain your organization's increased capacity
  • Training and human resources development projects will build skills and knowledge of key staff, exceptional volunteers or board members in areas such as:
    • Leadership skills
    • Strategic planning
    • Governance
    • Fundraising or financial management
    • Communications or marketing

How to Apply
Please complete the online Community Contributions Application. The webpage gives a list of types of grants available through an MEC grant program. Applications for Capacity Building are accepted twice a year: March 10 and September 10 by 12:00 midnight (Pacific Time).
