We are proud to announce that CentrePoint has been awarded a Canada Revenue Agency contract to supply an innovative educational and training project.

CentrePoint Non-Profit Management is pleased to announce that we submitted a successful bid and we have been awarded funding from the Charities Partnership and Outreach Program of the Canada Revenue Agency. By March 31, 2010. CentrePoint will develop an on-line portal that provides specific education, resources and tools related to the regulatory requirements and obligations of being a charity within Canada.

CentrePoint will be focusing on producing materials aimed at helping individuals or groups who are interested in starting a charity to determine the benefits and challenges of turning their dream into a reality. Everything from deciding what legal structure is most appropriate through to the best practices in charitable management and governance will be covered within the site.

CentrePoint is one of eight organizations across Canada whose successful proposals were chosen and awarded a total of $2,016,903 by CRA in contribution funding:

  1. Actions interculturelles de dévelopement et d'éducation (AIDE) Inc. ( Sherbrooke, Quebec)
  2. CentrePoint Non-Profit Management ( Calgary, Alberta)
  3. Éducaloi ( Montréal, Quebec)
  4. Imagine Canada ( Toronto, Ontario)
  5. Legal Information Society of Nova Scotia ( Halifax, Nova Scotia)
  6. Ontario Community Support Association ( Toronto, Ontario)
  7. The Public Legal Education Association of Saskatchewan ( Saskatoon, Saskatchewan)
  8. Université du Québec à Montréal (Montréal, Quebec)

“The process of starting a charity is much more complicated than most people realize. Charities are heavily regulated entities that are exposed to very explicit regulation through Revenue Canada and the Canadian Income Tax Act. This portal will provide those who have a desire to help and contribute to the community, with the information they need to determine the best path for them to accomplish this goal,” explains James Flaherty, Director of Operations of CentrePoint

CentrePoint plans to engage local Calgary talent/businesses to develop this innovative education and training project to explain the requirements of charitable registration.

CentrePoint is a local charity serving the non-profit sector through consulting, mentoring, training and knowledge sharing since 1996.
